THE LAST TIME OUT
The Enforcers are entering their tenth season of play following a 3-2 (3-1 NPSFL) season, which saw them earn victories over the Cleveland Warriors, NYCD Boldest, and the Philadelphia Blue Flame. The Enforcers wrapped up the 2014 season on June 7th with a gut-wrenching 17-15 loss to the Chicago Blaze in the 5th Annual First Responder Bowl. The game was a defensive battle in the first half, with the score knotted up at 0 after the first two quarters of play. The game came alive in the 4th quarter, however. Following an injury to quarterback Vince Macias, wide receiver George Hickey led the Enforcers down the field with under 3 minutes remaining. On 2nd and 12, Hickey attempted a play action pass that was intercepted and returned for a touchdown to give the Blaze a 14-7 lead. Hickey and the Enforcers showed no signs of quitting, however, as Hickey led the offense back down the field with under two minutes remaining. The drive was capped off by a long touchdown pass to Dan Passarelli (#5, Unit 312), who made an outstanding catch in the end zone. The Enforcers were playing to win, and converted a 2 point conversion run by rookie Rick Richardson (#44, Wheeling PD), a standout linebacker for the Enforcers who during his collegiate career played fullback at Division 1 FCS Western Illinois. With the two point conversion, the Enforcers now led 15-14 with 1:44 left to play in the ball game.
The John Welsh-led Blaze were not done, however. Welsh was able to utilize the flats to pick up big chunks of yardage through the air, driving the Blaze offense down the field. The game looked to be in hand following a pass breakup in the end zone by defensive back Chris Rodgers, but a questionable pass interference flag was thrown. With six seconds remaining in the game, the Blaze were able to kick a short field goal to give them the 17-15 lead that they would not relinquish.
After such a tough end to the 2014 season, the team is looking ahead to the future, starting with what promises to be an outstanding season opener against the San Diego Enforcers.
