enforcers drop season opener vs. columbus

3/29/14
CANAL WINCHESTER, OH-- Despite a strong first-half performance in the face of extremely cold and rainy conditions, the CPD Enforcers dropped the opening game of the season, falling 18-7 to the Columbus Marauders.
The Enforcers (0-1, 0-1 NPSFL) controlled the game throughout the first half, mainly through strong running efforts by running backs Chris Williams (#21, IDOC) and Chris Rodgers (#23, Federal Reserve PD) as well as sound blocking by the offensive line and fullback Johnathan Burns (#32, FED DOC). The Enforcer defense also held strong during the first half, holding the Marauders' (1-0, 1-0 NPSFL) strong running-based offense to a shut out.
This game was the tail of two halves though, with the Marauders getting the best of the Enforcers in the second half. The Marauders were able to capitalize on three Enforcer turnovers, using good field position to put up 18 second half points en route to the victory. Columbus was led offensively by dual-threat quarterback Shawn Fuqua, who found second-half success against the Enforcers using the running game. The Enforcers were led defensively in the loss by linebacker Jason Slater (#37, 018th District) and defensive lineman Aaron Chappell (#93, Unit 213), both team captains.
The Enforcers will look to bounce back on Saturday, April 12th when they take on the Cleveland Warriors in the first home game of the season. The game will take place at St. Rita High School with kickoff slated for 3 PM.
